| The San Diego Chargers named Norv Turner head coach on February 19, 2006.
NFL Career
Turner has enjoyed considerable success as an offensive coordinator, utilizing a power running game to set up play action in order to keep defenses off balance.
He has been less successful as a head coach (58-82-1), although much of that is due to the less-than-desirable circumstances he inherited.
He is a highly coveted teacher because of his ability to ride a workhorse running back and to groom a young quarterback.
He made a name for himself as offensive coordinator of the Cowboys when the team won Super Bowls in 1992 and 1993, led by the trio of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin.
His career includes the following stops:
-Rams receivers coach (1985-1990)
-Cowboys offensive coordinator (1991-1993)
-Redskins head coach (1994-2000)
-Chargers offensive coordinator (2001)
-Dolphins offensive coordinator (2002-2003)
-Raiders head coach (2004-2005)
-49ers offensive coordinator (2006) |
