The NFL Network reported Saturday night that the Chiefs have agreed to a five-year deal worth $16 million with former Falcons linebacker DeMorrio Williams. The deal includes $5.5 million in guaranteed money.
Williams (6-0, 226) started all 16 games for Atlanta a year ago at weakside linebacker, logging 78 tackles and two interceptions. He could potentially play the same position in Kansas City if
Donnie Edwards
, the Chiefs' 2007 starter at weakside linebacker, moved to the middle.
Warpaint Illustrated
has learned Napoleon Harris, last year's starting middle linebacker, may be cut.
In other Chiefs news:
CB Jacques Reeves
- The Chiefs missed out on Reeves as he signed a long-term contract with the Houston Texans. He was the second cornerback on KC's list to sign in as many days. Friday, former Chargers cornerback Drayton Florence signed with Jacksonville. The Chiefs are hoping to get former New England Patriots cornerback Randall Gay in town for a visit.
G/C Rex Hadnot
- The former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman is meeting with the Cleveland Browns on Sunday after failing to receive a contract offer from the Houston Texans on Saturday. The Chiefs are hoping to get him into Kansas City after he visits Cleveland. He would fill the void at right guard vacated by the release of John Welbourn.
According to Adam Caplan of Scout.com, with Donte Stallworth and Bernard Berrian off the market, the Chiefs are among eight teams with an interest in wide recievers Bryant Johnson and DJ Hackett. Warpaint Illustrated has learned the Chiefs would like to sign one veteran wide receiver before the NFL draft.
