The San Francisco 49ers announced today that linebacker Ahmad Brooks has a lacerated kidney and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
Brooks, who had career highs in sacks (six) and forced fumbles (four) last season, sustained what the team called a rib contusion on Friday. The kidney injury was discovered when he was examined Saturday.
Brooks is a key pass-rushing component of the 49ers’ defense. He also added eight special teams tackles.
